SYSTEM UPGRADE
No Need To Be Nervous

If there is a key to developing increased consciousness that is integrated and applied within your life, it must be in strengthening the nervous system so that the consciousness can be supported.
So how you strengthen your nervous system? You are hardly going to send it down to the gym? Strengthening nervous systems is not a subject your friendly Sunday Colour Supplement is going to cover, is it?
So here is the tip. Nervous systems need rest. But they are the pivot between mind and body and, apart from in death or similar dodgy states, neither the mind nor the body are ever in a state of complete inactivity.
Sure, the nervous system gets some rest in sleep (particularly in the dream state) but, as we can see by the ever increasing levels of stress in the world, not nearly enough.
One way to give the nervous system the very deep level of rest it needs to relieve the deep stresses that remain after sleep is through meditation.
The experience of stress release in meditation is very similar to the dream state in sleep -- a spontaneous flowing of uncontrolled or undirected thoughts. And, coincidentally, to the state of conscious dreaming that we all know so well as part of the experience of being stoned.
If you need a rationale to explain why the Amsterdam coffeehouse society is able to operate at a consistently higher level, we hope this explains it for you like it explains it for us.
