IT AIN'T HEAVY. IN FACT, IT'S
A Bit On The Light Side

elcome to the Inner Light, the bit of Coffeehouse Culture that
explores the ‘other side of life,’ the side that makes all the rest
meaningful. The Inner Light is, of course, much more than merely
a few pages in Coffeehouse Culture. It is a real thing, a thing that exists.
Whether or not we know it the Inner Light shines within all of us. Deep
within, at the very place where we and everything starts, the light is
radiant, white and pure. Whether we are aware of it or not, whether we
can feel and experience its effects or not, whether we acknowledge its
presence or not, the Inner Light shines on.

....
Life, however, is a different experience for
all of us. For some, the Inner Light is a
constant beacon (or is that ‘bacon’?) that not
only lights up the inside but also flashes out
into the external world revealing things hidd-
en in the shadows that would not otherwise
be seen. And for some, there is no light at all.
But whether one is aware of it or not, it is the
Light of life. Of the life within us. And it is the
Light that propels us through life and from life
to life. Although it is within, it’s relationship to
the individual is as the sun’s to the earth --
without it life simply withers away. The anal-
ogy is a good one for, like the sun, when the
Inner Light is hidden behind the clouds (of
delusion, illusion or ego) life becomes a dim, shadowy and depressing
experience. So it is for the majority of the people of the world. But, as
everyone knows, when the clouds disperse-- if the clouds disperse --
the world will be bathed in a golden light that will make it sparkle and
gleam.
....Although it is the external light sources that give the world its colours
and shapes, that create its materiality, what we see around us is only
that -- what we see around us. It is not the world as we see it, merely
the world as our eyes see it. Our real world vision is based on some-
thing much bigger, more expansive and more inclusive than that. How
we see the world is a matter of how we relate to the external stuff, how
we respond to it, understand it and assimilate it. And it is in those intan-
gible areas of life that the Inner Light has a part to play. For all our
responses are based on the amount of light that we can cast upon the
world that surrounds us. The more light we can use to illuminate our
world, the brighter things appear. With more light radiating out of us, the
world becomes a much clearer and more sharply defined experience.
And with enough light it becomes a radiant, sparkling, iridescent treas-
ure chest of pleasures.
....So, you may be asking, what exactly is the Inner Light? But if you
think you’ve got us cornered asking for a definition of this ineffable,
intangible, abstract and, perhaps, conjectural phenomenon, think
again. For we can tell you exactly what it is. Consciousness.
....Yes, surprise, surprise, the Inner Light is the Light of Consciousness.
And that must give hope to us all. For, as we all know, consciousness
is infinitely flexible and easily expandable. And, knowing that we are talk-
ing about the Light of Consciousness brings us closer to a crucial
understanding of the development of consciousness and the concept of
Enlightenment. Although it is seen as an abstract concept, Enlighten-
ment is much more than that. “Enlightenment’ has come to mean so
much but taking the word down to its simplest level, it means what it
says. Enlightenment is literally that. It is the amount of the Inner Light
that shines upon the world.
....Like the sun the Inner Light is always there. But like the sun it may be
swathed in clouds or
hidden behind a hazy
miasma. It is, however,
for us to sweep our
skies clear of clouds, to
reveal the blue behind
with the glorious sun at
its centre. Only thus
can we reveal the true
nature of life and the
world and enable our-
selves to live a full and
fulfilling span upon this
evolutionary platform that we call ‘living.’

MILLENNIUM MADNESS:

CONFUSED BY THE MULTIPLE MILLENNIUM CELEBRATIONS?
WONDERING WHAT WE ARE DOING CELEBRATING A NOTIONAL
DATE ON A CALENDAR THAT IS ONLY 500 YEARS OLD? WORRIED
THAT YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER 1000 YEARS
FOR THE NEXT PARTY? THEN TAKE HEED BECAUSE WE ARE
ABOUT TO GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO REALLY LOOK FORWARD
TO, SOMETHING TO REALLY CELEBRATE.

. tell you 'who,' however, we can, tell
you what and when. Like so many
buzz-phrases, ‘the Age of Aquarius’
has entered the language without
any clearly defined meaning. We
just kinda go with it on the basis of
‘aim wide and you’re sure to hit
something.’ But the Age of Aquarius
does mean something. And in the
article below our Astrology
Consultant, Sandy Hughes, gives
you a crash course in what
astrological ages mean.

. IN THE HALL OF THE
TIME LORDS

Join our House Astrologer and Lean Mean Prediction
Machine, Sandy Hughes, as she consults the heavens
and comes up with the date on which the Age of
Aquarius really begins.

. he Aquarian Age is a metaphor as
much as it is a measurement of
time. It is a metaphor of conscious
ness, of an aware state of being, of an
acceleration in the rate of evolution, of
the shrinking of time and space. And
haven’t we been experiencing a
speeding-up of time and shrinking of
space increasingly over the past
decades. As we fly over the globe and
beyond its confines, as the internet
provides us with communication unfett-
. . f you are as confused by the multiple new millennium
celebrations as we are, the start of the Age of Aquarius is
something you would probably prefer not to consider. But
maybe you should. As the New Millennium really starts to find
its feet, change is clearly in the air. It is just down on earth
that there doesn’t seem to be much evidence of it. Be that as
it may, we can all sense the ferment within the currents that
play around and within our lives and our psyches. It might all
be subtle, ill-defined and ambiguous but
many can see the New Age

ered by time or geography, as technol-

.... . approaching. In the storm before
the lull, however, the oracles are
silent, the seers are wearing
shades and the psychics are out
cycling. Except for our own
Astrological Consultant, that is.
MClearly the start of the new
millennium, whether fabricated or
not, is in itself a big event. And,
as one would expect, an event of
such worldly importance is more
than reflected in the heavens.
Consulting her ephemeris, Sandy
Hughes, says: 'To fully compre-
hend the potency of the exciting
times in which we live, we need
to plot our course through recent
world history and piece together
the symbols, omens and signs.
On New Year’s Eve of 1999, Chir-
on (the most recently discovered
planet in our solar system) and
Pluto met (in Sagittarius) for the
first time since 1941. It was that
explosive conjunction (in Leo)
that precipitated the bombing of
.... . see if somewhat subtle and ill-
defined. While Pluto contributed the social ferment and Uranus was the consciousness changer, it was Neptune that was responsible for all that subtlety.
M‘It is only through looking at recent history and coming to some understanding of the subtle forces at work that we can get to see that the Age of Aquarius is actually happening right now.
MWhen the cast of the musical ‘Hair’ sang ‘This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius,’ in 1968, they were just about spot on. It would seem that it truly was. Dawn, however, is only the start of the process that brings increasing light into the world. And as the light increased the events that brought the clarity were mirrored in the heavens. In 1989 as Saturn (status quo), Uranus (radical change and higher consciousness) and
. ogical advances leapfrog each other before our eyes, are we not seeing the Age of Aquarius become manifest?

SKY-BRIDGE

.....As we stand now on the sky-bridge between the familiar and the unknown, born of the winds of the Equinoxial Precession, the 28,500 year journey of the planet earth through the twelve signs of the zodiac, we can look back at the Piscean Age and see it as a mani-
festation of the consciousness of its time. As the Taurean Age became the Arian Age, some 4300 years ago, it marked the end of a matriarchal society that was attuned to the forces of nature. The Taurean Age denotes a time when

. Neptune (unity of spirit) met
in a rare conjunction in Capricorn, last seen in 1306 (in Scorpio), and the Berlin Wall fell.
M‘On New Year’s Eve 2000, that precipitator of change, Uranus forms a square to Neptune’s position in the mid-60s, suggesting a rebirth and furthering of that evolutionary consciousness. At the same time Chiron also squares its own 60s placement suggesting a confrontation with our higher selves. Add to these powerful influences the presence of
. man and Mother Nature operated in harmony and mutual supportiveness, and it is a state we still remember at the deep levels where genetic memory is stored. and continue to pine for.
.....As the Arian Age took hold, there was a dramatic shift from a benign matriarchal social focus to a masculine warrior consciousness. As the Earth Mother became God, the Father, violence, warfare, dominmance and control took over. Even the pious ‘fishers of men’ who ushered in the Piscean

VIOLENTLY RAVAGED

Age, 2160 years ago, seeking to bring love, compassion and surrender to a violently ravaged world were approp-
riated by the corrupt forces of Christianity to have their message subverted to little more than guilt-rendering judgements and patriarchal dogma. It is easy to see the elements that represented the male dominated Piscean Age.
.....Aquarius is depicted as the Water Bearer and, for that reason, is often thought to be a water sign. The sign of Aquarius is, however, an air sign and any waves emanating from it are not the watery kind but of an almost electrical energy. Indeed, its waves are the frequencies of consciousness, the ‘electrical’ vibrations that constitute the ebbs and flows of evolutionary thought. As the new age heralds an approach to life that is less gender orientated we can see many around us picking up on the higher vibrations of the Aquarian Age.
.....And where are these vibrations of a finer frequency coming from? Why us, dear reader. The Age of Aquarius is about us, you and me, all of us,

. . Pearl Harbour and the escalation
of the war in Europe to worldwide proportions. In 1945 Chiron met Neptune (in Libra), precipitating the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
M‘The conjunction on New Year’s Eve of the year 2000, however precipitated no such event. Or did it? Although only discovered in 1977, Chiron’s effects on world events are easy to plot. Seeking holism, Chiron is seen as symbolising both our wounding and our healing. Maybe we are in the process of experiencing its healing influences.
M‘Much has been made of the astrological influences throughout the 1960s. And not without good reason. It was in the 60s that this all started and it is all there in the heavens for anyone to read. That remarkable decade of revolution and revelation coincided with a continuous conjunction of Uranus (radical change/higher consciousness) and Pluto (social ferment and rebirth) -- the most explosive combination there is. But with Neptune in Scorpio contributing the sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll element, it became a more benign and less dramatic social upheaval than many would have wished.
M‘In retrospect the effects of this powerful conjunction are clear to
TOP OF COLUMN
. . Chiron and Pluto in Sagittarius (the truth seeker) and Uranus and Neptune in Aquarius (the truth teller) and the astrological equation becomes a potent one.
MAs for the Age of Aquarius, for that you will have to wait. Although there are almost as many views of when it truly starts as there are astrologers, the majority vote goes to 2012 -- aligning with the end of the 5000-year Mayan calendar. However my vote goes to 2011. In February of that year Chiron is in exact conjunction with Neptune at 28° Aquarius, for the first time since 1945, and by December 22nd, 2011 it has returned to Pisces where it was in the 1960s. Also on that date Uranus (ruling Aquarius) is at 0° in Aries (the first degree of the entire zodiac), the Sun is at 0° in Capricorn, Jupiter is at 0° in Taurus, Chiron is at 1° in Pisces and Venus is at 1° in Aquarius. Even Trans Pluto/Per-sephone (the Planet beyond Pluto) which has been in Leo since the 30s, will be at 0° in Virgo. And there is more. Also at 0° at dawn on December 22nd, 2011 are the Black Moon Lilith (in Taurus and in conjunction with Jupiter) and Vesta, which is in Pisces with Chiron at 1°. That sure sounds like a lot of new beginnings to me.’

. collectively and individually. As we leave behind the Piscean Age with its divide and conquer strategies and itssaint/sinner mentality, the new age presages an individual and collective assumption of personal power, a movement into our own uniqueness within which we can find or create our rightful places in the Grand Scheme. As
society resonates to a collective hum of a finer frequency, it naturally produces a raising of consciousness and an increasing rate of evolution for us all. Aquarius, a sign that celebrates our differences, has already sounded its clarion cosmic call inviting all those without prejudice to participate in a gathering that can take the world forward into the New Age.
