COFFEEHOUSE CULTURE -- Issue 2 PAGE SEVENTEEN; FEATURE SERIES THE SOUND OF SILENCE Silence comes in many forms. But there are few silences more profound than the silence of the ancient Vedic civilisation. Although it is not much more than a whisper in the history books, the silence of the Vedic culture rings down through the ages. It is the silence within which all things are based, within which all truths are to be found, within which nothing is hidden. It is the eternal silence of Transcendental Consciousness in which the ancient Vedic Rishis cognised the Truth about the world and everything in it. Thus it was -- on the basis of the knowledge gained in Transcendental Consciousness -- that the Golden Age of the Vedic Civilisation came into being. No history exists of the experiences of the Rishis, no record of their adventures in the uncharted and unchartable regions of their inner selves is available. But their wisdom lives on in the Holy books of the Hindu canon, in the rituals and practices of the Priests and Sadhus and in the knowledge that at the heart of everything is Consciousness. |
